New Research: Crowded Gyms Contribute to Coronavirus

Since opening our doors, we’ve worked hard to make Manduu the safest, most effective alternative to a gym in the U.S.

One of the things that makes Manduu such a safe alternative is our semi-private training. At any given time, you’ll never be in a Manduu studio with more than one other client and a Manduu trainer. Recently, we were reminded of the importance of this after reviewing new research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which traced Coronavirus outbreaks in Chicago and Honolulu to group fitness classes in crowded gyms.

In one particular case, a C.D.C. epidemiologist in Chicago identified 55 coronavirus infections among 81 people who attended high-intensity, in-person fitness classes between Aug. 24 and Sept. 1. And in Hawaii, 21 different infections were linked to a fitness instructor in Honolulu who taught at several facilities a couple days before developing noticeable symptoms of Covid-19.

Here’s the thing: The gym members affected in these cases were required to wear masks when they entered the gym, but were allowed to remove them during their classes. According to the research, those who were infected were found more likely not to have worn their masks during their workout.

In a group fitness setting, when sweat droplets are flying everywhere and you’re next to people getting after it and breathing heavily, how do you know some of the people in your immediate space aren’t symptomatic, or worse, have the Coronavirus and may not know it?

These findings have led the C.D.C. to call for stricter precautions in gyms. So, this seems like the perfect time to look at some of the additional factors that make Manduu safer than a crowded gym, and have long before the Coronavirus pandemic hit.

You Can Wear a Mask During Our Workouts

Manduu workouts are ultra-low impact and perfect for all fitness levels, so whether you’re an elite athlete or just looking to shake off the quarantine cobwebs, you won’t feel strain on your joints, tendons or ligaments when you train with us.

In fact, our workouts are so low-impact that you can wear a mask during the entirety of your workout. Our trainers are also required to wear masks.

But just because you may not breathe heavily during a 15-minute Manduu workout, that doesn’t mean you aren’t burning fat and calories. Manduu workouts activate more than 90 percent of muscle fibers in nine major muscle groups. That means one 15-minute session at Manduu can produce results that would take six to eight hours to achieve in a regular gym.

We Have State-of-the-Art Air Filtration and Sanitation

We go above-and-beyond to ensure your health and safety. Our studios use an air filtration system that employs ActivePure® technology to kill 99.9% of bacteria and viruses in the air and on surfaces. It’s the same technology NASA uses.

Our equipment, EMS suits and workout clothing are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized after each use. You can also purchase your own workout suit for individual use.

And each of our studios adheres to all local, state and federal safety guidelines.

Our Trainers Are Trained and Certified

We believe you’ll get the best results with custom workouts that are tailored to meet your unique fitness goals. That’s why none of our workouts are one-size-fits-all, and they are led by a certified, FDA-cleared trainer.

Our trainers focus on your form to make sure you’re exercising correctly. In addition, we use metrics from the InBody 770, one of the most sophisticated body composition measurement tools on the market, to build the most efficient workouts that increase strength and muscle. Nothing beats working with a live trainer, as opposed to stock streaming trainers on apps like Tonal, Mirror and Peleton.

You can walk into a Manduu studio, complete a killer workout, go over your results with your trainer, and head back to your car in less than 30 minutes—and you never have to remove your mask. So, if you want to build muscle in a safe, encouraging environment: get in, get fit and get out with Manduu.
