Mandy Oakes clutched a bright yellow tennis ball while she swiveled her torso to the right.

“Can you turn the resistance up a little bit on my abs?” she asked her instructor halfway through her high-intensity 15-minute workout called Manduu.

Attached to Oakes’ body was a black electrical body suit, which was plugged into a device that tracked the resistance of her nine muscle groups during her exercise. While an instructor guided Oakes, she received electrical muscle stimulation through the suit.
